basketball team, the UConn Huskies, for winning the 2024 National 
Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Basketball Championship, and 
commending and congratulating the University of Connecticut's women's 
basketball team for securing a place in the Final Four.

Himes, and Mrs. Hayes) submitted the following resolution; which was 
referred to the Committee on Education and the Workforce

RESOLUTION

Commending and congratulating the University of Connecticut men's 
basketball team, the UConn Huskies, for winning the 2024 National 
Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Basketball Championship, and 
commending and congratulating the University of Connecticut's women's 
basketball team for securing a place in the Final Four.

Whereas, on Monday, April 8, 2024, the University of Connecticut's men's 
basketball team (referred to in this preamble as the ``UConn Huskies'') 
won the 2024 National Collegiate Athletic Association (referred to in 
this preamble as the ``NCAA'') Men's Basketball Championship with a 75-
60 win over the Purdue University Boilermakers at State Farm Stadium in 
Glendale, Arizona;
Whereas this is the UConn men's basketball team's sixth national championship, 
continuing the team's undefeated streak in national championship games;
Whereas this is the UConn men's team's second consecutive national championship, 
becoming only the eighth NCAA Division I men's basketball team to 
accomplish this feat;
Whereas the UConn men's basketball team has earned all 6 national titles since 
1999, a feat that no other college team has surpassed during that time;
Whereas UConn player Tristen Newton was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 
NCAA tournament in 2024, averaging 14.5 points per game;
Whereas UConn player Donovan John Clingan earned the 2024 AP Honorable Mention 
All-American, scoring an exceptional 22 points in the NCAA tournament 
championship game;
Whereas UConn player Hassan Diara earned the 2024 Big East Sixth Man Award, 
becoming the second University of Connecticut player to receive the 
award since its creation;
Whereas UConn player Cameron Spencer's transfer to UConn was an invaluable asset 
to the team's success, and he is one of the top free throw shooters in 
the country;
Whereas UConn player Stephon Castle won Big East Freshman of the Year;
Whereas UConn player Alex Karaban in his two years at UConn has now helped the 
team secure two national championships;
Whereas UConn player Paige Madison Bueckers earned the 2024 Unanimous First-Team 
All-American for the second time, the 2024 Big East Player of the Year 
for the second time, and the 2024 Big East Tournament Most Outstanding 
Player for the second time;
Whereas UConn player Aaliyah Edwards contributed an extraordinary 17 points to 
the Final Four game as the University of Connecticut's women's 
basketball teams active leading scorer with an average 17.6 points 
scored per game;
Whereas UConn player Nika Muhl is the all-time leader in career assists at the 
University of Connecticut, holding the program record for most assists 
in a single season;
Whereas UConn player KK Arnold averaged an impressive 2.3 steals per game;
Whereas UConn player Ashlynn Shade is Big East Freshman of the Year and averages 
11.2 points per game;
Whereas the UConn men's team won every NCAA tournament game by 13 points or more 
for a second straight year, and set the record this year for the largest 
margin of victory over its 6-game run with 140 combined points;
Whereas the University of Connecticut is home to the most successful NCAA 
Division I women's basketball program in history, having won a record 11 
national championships and appearing in their 23d Final Four this year; 
and
Whereas, due to the incredible feats of both the women's and men's collegiate 
basketball teams, Storrs, Connecticut, is the College Basketball Capital 
of the World: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the House of Representatives--
(1) commends the University of Connecticut men's basketball 
team for winning the 2024 National Collegiate Athletic 
Association Men's Basketball Championship and commends the 
University of Connecticut women's basketball team for reaching 
the Final Four of the Collegiate Athletic Association women's 
Basketball Championship for the 23d time in program history;
(2) congratulates Coach Geno Auriemma on his 39th year 
coaching for the University of Connecticut's women's basketball 
team, achieving an unprecedented 11 National Collegiate 
Athletic Association Women's Basketball Championships and 1,200 
career victories, and congratulates Coach Dan Hurley on his 2d 
national victory with the men's team;
(3) celebrates the fans, students, and faculty of the 
University of Connecticut; and
(4) respectfully requests that the Clerk of the House of 
Representatives transmit an enrolled copy of this resolution 
to--
(A) the President of the University of Connecticut, 
Radenka Maric;
(B) the Head Coach of the University of Connecticut 
men's basketball team, Dan Hurley; and
(C) the Head Coach of the University of 
Connecticut's women's basketball team, Geno Auriemma.
