R. 6724 To amend title XVI of the Social Security Act to ensure stability in payments to Supplemental Security Income beneficiaries. _______________________________________________________________________ IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES December 15, 2025 Mr. Rulli (for himself and Mr. Deluzio) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Ways and Means _______________________________________________________________________ A BILL To amend title XVI of the Social Security Act to ensure stability in payments to Supplemental Security Income beneficiaries. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. This Act may be cited as the ``Protecting Supplemental Security Income for Disaster Victims Act''. SEC. 2. DISREGARD OF PAYMENTS RECEIVED IN SETTLEMENT OF CERTAIN CLAIMS. (a) Income Disregard.--Section 1612(b) of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 1382a(b)) is amended-- (1) by striking ``and'' at the end of paragraph (25); (2) by striking the period at the end of paragraph (26) and inserting ``; and''; and (3) by adding at the end the following: ``(27) any amount received by such individual (or such spouse) in settlement of a claim of personal injury, physical sickness, or damage to, or depreciation of, property of such individual (or such spouse), including any amount so received, whether before, on, or after the date of the enactment of this paragraph, in settlement of the case styled In Re: East Palestine Train Derailment, CASE NO. 4:23-CV-00242, in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.''. (b) Resource Disregard.--Section 1613(a) of such Act (42 U.S.C. 1382b(a)) is amended-- (1) by striking ``and'' at the end of paragraph (16); (2) by striking the period at the end of paragraph (17) and inserting ``; and''; and (3) by adding at the end the following: ``(18) for the month of receipt and every month thereafter, any amount received by such individual (or such spouse) in settlement of a claim of personal injury, physical sickness, or damage to, or depreciation of, property of such individual (or such spouse), including any amount so received, whether before, on, or after the date of the enactment of this paragraph, in settlement of the case styled In Re: East Palestine Train Derailment, CASE NO. 4:23-CV-00242, in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.''. (c) Effective Date.--The amendments made by this Act shall apply with respect to benefits payable for months beginning on or after the date of the enactment of this Act, except that, in the case of the settlement specified in sections 1612(b)(27) and 1613(a)(18) of the Social Security Act, the amendments shall also apply with respect to benefits paid for months beginning before such date of enactment. <all>
