R. 7275 To amend title 49, United States Code, to ensure each Center Weather Service Unit is adequately staffed for the safe and efficient movement of aircraft in air commerce, and for other purposes. _______________________________________________________________________ IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES January 30, 2026 Ms. Gillen (for herself and Mr. Begich) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, and in addition to the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned _______________________________________________________________________ A BILL To amend title 49, United States Code, to ensure each Center Weather Service Unit is adequately staffed for the safe and efficient movement of aircraft in air commerce, and for other purposes. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. This Act may be cited as the ``Aviation Weather Safety Improvement Act''. SEC. 2. CENTER WEATHER SERVICE UNIT STAFFING. Section 44720 of title 49, United States Code (relating to meteorological services), is amended-- (1) in subsection (b)-- (A) in paragraph (6), by striking ``and'' after the semicolon; (B) in paragraph (7), by striking the period and inserting ``; and''; and (C) by adding at the end the following new paragraph: ``(8) coordinate with the Director of the National Weather Service, the Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration, and the exclusive bargaining representatives of air traffic control specialists of the Federal Aviation Administration and employees of the National Weather Service certified under section 7111 of title 5, United States Code, to ensure each Center Weather Service Unit is adequately staffed in order to provide for the safe and efficient movement of aircraft in air commerce in accordance with subsection (a).''; and (2) by adding at the end the following new subsection: ``(c) Reports on Center Weather Service Unit Staffing.--Not later than 180 days after the date of the enactment of this subsection and annually thereafter, the Secretary shall submit to the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation of the Senate a report on the implementation of paragraph (8) of subsection (b).''. <all>
