Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. This Act may be cited as the ``Citizen Ballot Protection Act''. SEC. 2. CONTENTS OF STATE MAIL VOTER REGISTRATION FORM. (a) In General.--Section 6(a) of the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (52 U.S.C. 20505(a)) is amended-- (1) in paragraph (1)-- (A) by striking ``Federal Election Commission'' and inserting ``Election Assistance Commission''; and (B) by inserting ``, except that a State may, in addition to the criteria stated in section 9(b), require that an applicant provide proof that the applicant is a citizen of the United States'' after ``elections for Federal office''; and (2) in paragraph (2), by inserting ``and such form may include a requirement that the applicant provide proof that the applicant is a citizen of the United States'' after ``elections for Federal office''. (b) Effective Date.--This section shall take effect on the date of the enactment of this Act. <all>
