Assessments
evidence-backed verdictsThese are sourced verdicts from fact-checkers or community evidence reviews — not opinions.
On Feb 2, 2021, Biden signed an executive order creating an Interagency Task Force on the Reunification of Families, chaired by DHS, to identify and reunite children separated under Trump's 2018 zero-tolerance policy, and revoking the prior executive order. By 2023 the task force reported reuniting over 700 families. However, family separations at the border did not end immediately or entirely: DHS's own inspector general and reporting found separations continued in smaller numbers under Biden for safety-related or medical reasons, and full reunification of all separated families was not completed within the term. The promise of an 'immediate' reversal was substantially but not completely fulfilled.
