Assessments
evidence-backed verdictsThese are sourced verdicts from fact-checkers or community evidence reviews — not opinions.
Biden pursued the expansion through the Build Back Better Act: dental and vision coverage were dropped during 2021 negotiations over cost, but his October 28, 2021 framework proposed a new Medicare hearing benefit, and the House passed the bill with that provision in November 2021. The effort collapsed when Sen. Joe Manchin announced on December 19, 2021 that he would not support the bill in the 50-50 Senate, and no dental, vision, or hearing expansion was enacted before the term ended January 20, 2025. The Medicare eligibility age was not raised, consistent with the promise's second clause, but the promised coverage expansion was a genuine push that did not land.
