Assessments

During his 2021-2025 term the Biden administration never proposed legislation or executive action to place existing assault weapons under the National Firearms Act with a sell-back-or-register choice. The assault-weapons bill Biden endorsed, H.R. 1808 (House-passed July 29, 2022), instead expressly exempted weapons lawfully possessed on the date of enactment, and the administration's legislative asks through September 2024 were an assault weapons ban and PLCAA repeal, not NFA registration or a buyback of existing weapons. Having the opportunity to advance this specific proposal and never meaningfully engaging it rates IGNORED.
