ChampionedGuns & the Second Amendment

Democrats believe that gun companies should be held responsible for their products, just like any other business, and will prioritize repealing the law that shields gun manufacturers from civil liability.

ChampionedFact-checker reviewConfidence: 80%

Independently verified. As president (2021-2025) Biden made repealing PLCAA (the statute shielding gun manufacturers from civil liability) a signature, repeatedly-stated priority rather than a passing mention: in his first State of the Union (March 1, 2022) he called on Congress to 'repeal the liability shield that makes gun manufacturers the only industry in America that can't be sued'; he created the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention (Sept 22, 2023); and the White House one-year progress fact sheet states he 'forcefully call[ed] on Congress to pass an assault weapons ban and repeal PLCAA.' That is well beyond a single supporting vote — it is active presidential leadership of the effort. But a president cannot unilaterally repeal a statute, and Congress never passed a repeal: the Equal Access to Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act (H.R.4184/S.2048, 118th Congress) was introduced June 15, 2023 and never received a floor vote. Not FULL (never enacted) and not merely ATTEMPTED (far more than a token push); CHAMPIONED is the correct label. Same-standard check: a president of either party who made this a signature priority, called for it in the State of the Union, and stood up a dedicated White House office, yet saw Congress decline to act, would earn the identical label — no partisan leniency or harshness. All three cited sources are real, live, and support the outcome (The Trace 403s to automated fetchers but is a genuine, currently-live article confirmed via independent search of its exact SOTU quote).
