The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, signed November 15, 2021, invested $66 billion in rail - the largest passenger-rail investment since Amtrak's creation, including $22 billion in direct Amtrak funding - plus nearly $90 billion in public transit, the largest transit investment in U.S. history. In December 2023 the administration announced $8.2 billion for 10 passenger-rail projects, including $3 billion for the Brightline West high-speed line and $3.07 billion for California high-speed rail. The promised investments in high-speed, passenger, and freight rail and in public transportation were enacted and flowing during Biden's term, though no high-speed line was yet in service when his term ended January 20, 2025.
