No Biden family member held a White House office or sat in on meetings in a Cabinet-style role during his term (January 20, 2021 - January 20, 2025), satisfying the pledge's first two elements. The no-foreign-business element was not fully honored: Hunter Biden entered the presidency still holding a 10 percent stake in BHR Partners, a Chinese state-linked investment fund, and on February 5, 2021 the White House confirmed he was still working to unwind that investment. His lawyer said in November 2021 that he no longer held any interest in BHR, but a family business relationship tied to a foreign corporation persisted well into the term, so the pledge was only partly kept.
