Assessments
evidence-backed verdictsThese are sourced verdicts from fact-checkers or community evidence reviews — not opinions.
Biden put forward government-wide measures for transgender Americans, including Executive Order 13988 (January 20, 2021) extending federal sex-discrimination protections to gender identity and Executive Order 14075 (June 15, 2022), which directed agencies across government to defend the rights and safety of LGBTQI+ people and address health, housing, and child-welfare disparities. His Justice Department prosecuted anti-transgender violence, securing the nation's first federal jury conviction for a gender-identity-motivated hate crime in February 2024 in the killing of Dime Doe in South Carolina. Both promised actions - comprehensive proposals and prosecution of anti-transgender violence - occurred during the term.
