“I have proposed the largest tax reduction of any candidate who has declared for the presidential race this year. Middle-income Americans will experience profound relief, and taxes will be greatly simplified.”

Assessments
evidence-backed verdictsThese are sourced verdicts from fact-checkers or community evidence reviews — not opinions.
The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (Public Law 115-97, signed December 22, 2017) delivered a roughly $1.5 trillion tax cut that lowered individual rates and nearly doubled the standard deduction, simplifying filing for the many households that stopped itemizing. But middle-income relief was modest rather than profound - after-tax income for the middle 60 percent of earners rose an estimated 1.2 to 1.9 percent in the law's first year - and the individual provisions were written as temporary, expiring after 2025. Large tax cut delivered; 'profound' middle-class relief and great simplification only partly realized.
