Fully KeptImmigration & Border Security

As soon as I enter office, I am going to ask the Department of State, Homeland Security and the Department of Justice to begin a comprehensive review...from which immigration must be suspended until proven and effective vetting mechanisms can be put into place.

Within a week of taking office, Trump signed Executive Order 13769 (Jan. 27, 2017), directing an immediate interagency vetting review and suspending entry from seven designated countries. After courts blocked the first two versions, Proclamation 9645 (Sept. 24, 2017) imposed entry restrictions on countries found deficient in a completed worldwide vetting review, and the Supreme Court upheld that framework in Trump v. Hawaii on June 26, 2018. The promised review-plus-suspension policy was implemented and remained in effect until revoked by the next administration in January 2021.
