Trump withdrew the United States from the JCPOA on May 8, 2018, consistent with his criticism of the deal, and Iran did not acquire a nuclear weapon during his first term (2017-2021). In his second term he ordered strikes on June 21, 2025 against Iran's nuclear facilities at Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan. As of spring 2026, U.S. intelligence assessed that Iran is not building a nuclear weapon, and the Director of National Intelligence testified in March 2026 that Iran has not resumed enriching uranium. Iran's enrichment program did expand beyond JCPOA limits after the 2018 withdrawal, shortening its potential breakout time, but the promised outcome as stated - Iran not having a nuclear weapon under a Trump administration - has held through July 2026.
