Stop-and-frisk is a local policing tactic the federal government cannot directly impose, but Trump used his office to push for it: in an October 8, 2018 speech to the International Association of Chiefs of Police he said he had directed the Attorney General's office to go to Chicago and told them to 'strongly consider stop-and-frisk.' Chicago's mayor rejected the proposal, the city never adopted it, and a 2013 federal ruling had already found New York's version unconstitutional as applied. No stop-and-frisk program was implemented federally or in Chicago in either term through July 2026, making this a push that did not land.
