Independently verified. The 2016 statement is praise of stop-and-frisk implying a commitment to support/push the policy. Over 2018-2024 Trump actively led the cause well beyond a single supporting act: in his Oct 8, 2018 remarks to the International Association of Chiefs of Police he said stop-and-frisk 'works and it was meant for problems like Chicago,' and directed the attorney general's office to take a more active role and recommended DOJ work with Chicago authorities to implement it (ABC News, verified verbatim). He continued defending it in 2020 (attacking Bloomberg over the same policy he backed), and in his 2024 campaign made reinstatement a pillar of his anti-crime platform, pledging to 'insist that local jurisdictions return to proven common sense policing measures, such as stop and frisk' or risk federal funds (NBC News, verified verbatim). He never acted against it. However, stop-and-frisk is a local policing practice a president cannot unilaterally enact; it was ruled unconstitutional in NYC (2013), Chicago rejected the push, and it was never implemented as advocated -- so the effort was actively led/driven but did not land. CHAMPIONED (+0.75) is correct and party-neutral: an identical record for the opposing party would earn the same label. Verdict is REVISE (not CONFIRM) only to correct sourcing -- the ABC URL host is standardized and the prior 2020 NBC quote, which could not be substantiated, is replaced with a verifiable CNBC report of the same 2020 defense.
