During his first term (2017-2021) Trump enacted no major Social Security anti-fraud initiative or solvency measure. In his second term his administration mounted a high-profile DOGE-led effort at the Social Security Administration targeting records of implausibly old numberholders — the same claim in this promise — but SSA's own Trump-appointed acting commissioner clarified in February 2025 that people listed over 100 in its records were generally not receiving benefits, so no large recovery of waste, fraud and abuse resulted. Meanwhile the 2025 Trustees Report moved the combined trust funds' projected depletion date up to 2034, and no legislation to shore up the program has been enacted, so Social Security has not been 'saved.'
