No human life amendment or federal legislation extending Fourteenth Amendment protections to children before birth was advanced with Trump's backing during his 2017-2021 term, and he has not pursued either in his second term. In July 2024, at Trump's direction, the Republican National Committee adopted a platform that dropped this decades-old plank and instead left abortion policy to the states, ending the party's explicit endorsement of a national standard for the first time in 40 years.
