Assessments

Rated on the completed 2017-2021 term. This July 21, 2016 convention pledge, made after the Islamist-inspired Pulse nightclub attack, named radical-Islamist violence as the threat to LGBTQ Americans. The administration prosecuted the counter-ISIS campaign, announcing on March 23, 2019 that all ISIS-held territory in Syria and Iraq had been retaken, and no comparable Islamist attack on LGBTQ Americans was recorded in the U.S. during the term. However, the administration undertook no protective measures specific to LGBTQ citizens, the promise's named beneficiaries, so the 'everything in my power' pledge is credited as partly kept.
