The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (P.L. 119-21, signed July 4, 2025) created a new federal income-tax deduction for qualified overtime compensation, effective for tax years 2025 through 2028. The deduction is capped at $12,500 ($25,000 for joint filers), phases out above $150,000/$300,000 in modified AGI, and covers only the premium portion of overtime pay above the worker's regular rate. Payroll (Social Security and Medicare) taxes still apply and the provision expires after 2028, so overtime taxation was substantially reduced for many workers but not ended entirely as promised.
