On his first day back (Jan. 20, 2025), Trump signed Executive Order 14154 directing the Energy Department to restart reviews of LNG export applications, and DOE announced the same day that the Biden-era pause on export approvals was ended effective immediately. The first non-free-trade-agreement export authorization since the pause, for Commonwealth LNG, issued on Feb. 14, 2025, and further authorizations followed through 2025. Individual terminal authorizations legally require review and so came in the following weeks rather than on Jan. 20 itself, but the promised unblocking occurred on day one and the stalled export terminals were approved.
