On January 20, 2025 — his first day in office and within the promise's timeframe — President Trump issued Proclamation 10887, granting a full, complete and unconditional pardon to all individuals convicted of offenses related to the January 6, 2021 Capitol events, except 14 named individuals whose sentences were commuted to time served, and directing dismissal of all pending January 6 indictments. Roughly 1,500 defendants received pardons. The promise was to pardon 'a large portion of them... early on,' and the day-one blanket clemency met and exceeded that pledge.
