When I return to the White House I will fire the radical left accreditors that have allowed our colleges to become dominated by Marxist maniacs and lunatics. We will then accept applications for new accreditors who will impose real standards on colleges once again and once and for all.

AttemptedFact-checker reviewConfidence: 85%

Executive Order 14279 (April 23, 2025) directed the Education Secretary to hold accreditors accountable, including through suspension or termination of federal recognition, and to resume recognizing new accreditors. The Department convened negotiated rulemaking, and on May 21, 2026, the committee reached consensus on rules reducing barriers for new accreditors, but final regulations were still pending as of July 2, 2026. No existing accreditor's federal recognition has been terminated, and no new accreditor has yet been recognized; the new six-state Commission for Public Higher Education formed in 2025 but does not plan to seek federal recognition until 2027. A formal, concrete push that has not yet landed.
