President Trump will veto any effort to weaponize or nationalize civics education. Executive Order 14190 (January 29, 2025) reinstated the President's Advisory 1776 Commission and directed the Secretary of Education to establish it within the Department within 120 days, fulfilling the reinstatement pledge. The Department of Education separately announced a Patriotic Education supplemental grant priority on September 17, 2025, promoting civics instruction on America's founding principles. However, as of July 2026 no federal credentialing body to certify teachers who embrace patriotic values has been created, and no legislation to nationalize civics education has reached the President's desk to test the veto pledge. One of the promise's several concrete deliverables was completed; others were not.
