Through July 2, 2026 - roughly 17 months into the term, with Republican majorities in both chambers - no legislation protecting a right to self-defense or creating federal penalties for prosecutorial abuse has passed Congress; the last major federal firearms statute remains the 2022 Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. The closest related measure, S.4013 (National Constitutional Carry Act, introduced March 5, 2026), remains in committee, and there is no record of the White House proposing or lobbying for the promised bill even as the administration pursued its firearms agenda through executive and agency action.
