Through July 2, 2026, the Trump administration has not blocked mifepristone. FDA Commissioner Marty Makary said in April 2025 there were 'no plans' to restrict the drug, the Justice Department moved in May 2025 to dismiss a lawsuit by GOP-led states seeking to curtail access, and the FDA approved a second generic version of mifepristone on Oct. 2, 2025. When the Fifth Circuit ordered in-person-only dispensing on May 1, 2026 in Louisiana v. FDA, the Supreme Court stayed that order on May 14, 2026, keeping the pill available - the restriction effort came from state litigants and the courts, not administration action. A presidentially directed FDA safety review remains pending and the term is ongoing, but to date the pledge not to block the abortion pill has been kept.
