Assessments
evidence-backed verdictsThese are sourced verdicts from fact-checkers or community evidence reviews — not opinions.
Through July 2, 2026, no federal ban or legal restriction on birth control has been enacted or advocated by Trump, and a 2021 regulation requiring Title X projects to offer a broad range of contraceptive methods remains in place. However, the administration withheld Title X family-planning grants in 2025 from providers serving more than 800,000 patients (2026 funds were ultimately distributed at roughly 2025 levels after litigation and delay), moved to destroy $9.7 million in contraceptives from foreign-aid stockpiles, and issued 2027 Title X guidance steering the federal family-planning program away from contraception toward 'natural family planning.' The letter of the pledge - no ban and no advocated restrictions on birth control itself - has held, but concrete administrative actions have reduced contraceptive access for some populations, warranting partial credit.
