Made July 8, 2024, in the Republican platform; rated on the ongoing second term through July 2, 2026. Both halves of the promise have seen concrete executive action: Executive Order 14218 (Feb. 19, 2025) directs agencies to ensure taxpayer-funded benefits exclude ineligible aliens, and Executive Order 14296 (May 9, 2025) explicitly redirects funds that might have been spent housing or serving illegal aliens to a new national center intended to shelter and treat homeless veterans in Los Angeles. Actual delivery of the veteran shelter and treatment capacity funded by those savings remains in progress, with the center directed to house up to 6,000 veterans by Jan. 1, 2028, so the promise is partly but not fully kept as of mid-2026.
