On March 17, 2025, HUD and the Interior Department announced a Joint Task Force on Federal Land for Housing to identify underutilized federal lands and streamline transfers, and the secretaries later toured Nevada parcels slated for conveyance. Through mid-2026, concrete action remains preliminary and small-scale: a March 24, 2026 Federal Register notice proposed a direct sale of an 18.59-acre parcel to the City of Henderson, Nevada for affordable housing, using a below-market sale process that operates under a pre-existing Nevada lands statute. No large-scale opening of federal tracts for housing construction has been completed, and no special ultra-low-tax, low-regulation housing zones have been created.
