On January 20, 2025, Trump signed the executive order 'Ending the Weaponization of the Federal Government,' directing a government-wide review of civil and criminal enforcement activity over the prior four years, and in late January 2025 the Justice Department fired about a dozen employees who had worked on special counsel Jack Smith's prosecutions of Trump. Under Executive Order 14176 (January 23, 2025), the National Archives released all previously withheld JFK assassination records beginning March 18, 2025, delivering the declassification component. Declassification and firings occurred, but official records reviewed as of July 2026 do not show the broader accountability program completed, supporting partial rather than full credit.
