PartialFact-checker reviewConfidence: 70%

On January 29, 2025, Trump signed Executive Order 14190 directing agencies to plan for eliminating federal funding tied to gender ideology and 'discriminatory equity ideology' in K-12 schools, and his Education Department canceled roughly $600 million in teacher-training grants over DEI content, cuts the Supreme Court allowed to proceed on April 4, 2025. However, the administration's principal mechanism for defunding schools themselves - the February 14, 2025 'Dear Colleague' letter and an April 2025 certification requirement threatening loss of federal funds - was struck down by a federal judge in August 2025, and the department dropped its appeal in early 2026. Some related funding was cut, but the promised defunding of schools over curriculum content was largely blocked in court and not realized as of July 2026.
