Sanders is lead sponsor of the Prescription Drug Price Relief Act of 2025 (S.1818, introduced May 20, 2025), which would peg U.S. prices to what peer nations pay. He personally drove it on the Senate floor - on May 21, 2025 he sought unanimous consent to pass it, and during the FY2026 budget vote-a-rama on April 23, 2026 he forced a floor vote on his Most Favored Nation drug-pricing amendment (#5159) to cut U.S. prices by more than 50%. The amendment failed 49-49, short of the 60 votes needed, despite three Republicans (Collins, Hawley, Sullivan) crossing over. He led and sponsored the effort hard, but Republican control blocked it and no law resulted through 2026-07-16.
