On February 27, 2025, Sanders introduced the Social Security Expansion Act (S.770) with Sen. Warren, expanding benefits by $2,400 a year and funding solvency for 75 years by applying the payroll tax to income above $250,000. He personally sponsored and led the bill, but it did not advance to a vote or enactment under the Republican Senate through 2026-07-16.
