Assessments
evidence-backed verdictsThese are sourced verdicts from fact-checkers or community evidence reviews — not opinions.
All three cited PRIMARY sources are reachable and each supports the PARTIAL rating for this effort-based ("fight for") promise. (1) The Senate roll-call page confirms Gillibrand voted Yea on S.744, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act — comprehensive immigration reform with an earned pathway to citizenship — which passed 68-32; the cited quote (measure title + passage tally + her Yea) is authentic to the page. (2) The DREAM Act press release confirms she "joined" Durbin/Reid/Menendez and 30+ other senators in introducing the bill — a cosponsor, not a lead author — and the quote "earn their way to legal status" appears verbatim. (3) The June 7, 2021 statement contains the exact quote "it's time we pave the pathway to citizenship for essential workers, Dreamers and TPS recipients." PARTIAL is well-calibrated: she performed genuine parts of the "fight" (a vote for a Senate-passed comprehensive bill, repeated cosponsorships, sustained advocacy), but no comprehensive reform or DREAM Act became law during her tenure, so the promised fair-immigration-system-with-earned-pathway remains unrealized. CHAMPIONED is correctly rejected — she was one of 30+ cosponsors and a supporting vote, with no evidence she authored or led the legislation. No source is fabricated, unreachable, or unsupportive of the outcome, and the outcome does not overstate the evidence.
