Assessments

Independently verified. Daines has actively LED pro-Second-Amendment legislation rather than casting a single supporting vote: he authored and introduced the Firearm Industry Non-Discrimination (FIND) Act across the 117th, 118th, and 119th Congresses (confirmed by his own office and NSSF), and introduced the Modern Firearms Safety Act. He voted against the 2022 Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (the major federal gun-control measure), independently confirmed via Newsweek, GovTrack, and Ballotpedia, and voted in October 2023 for the amendment based on the Veterans Second Amendment Protection Act to shield veterans from NICS reporting. All three sources cited by the prior rating are real, live, and support the outcome; the only weakly-verified item in the prior rationale was a 'RIFLE Act' reference I could not confirm, but it is immaterial because leadership on the FIND Act and Modern Firearms Safety Act independently establishes the CHAMPIONED threshold. Not FULL: this is an ongoing 'always fight' commitment where his led measures have largely not been enacted. The label applies the same standard that a Democrat leading multiple bills in their promised direction (not fully enacted) would receive. CHAMPIONED (+0.75) at 0.9 confidence is fair and correct.
